Off Commercial (P-Town)

This is from my last "Jeep Trip" to Provincetown with Ros Farbush, Kelley MacDonald, and Mary Sheehan Winn in July, 2011 before Ros passed away. We made an annual event of this each summer for the last 4 years of Ros' life. I miss Ros, and I miss our Jeep Trips....

Hanging Around 6"x6"

This month's challenge for Girls Just Wanna Paint was "hat." A hat that used to look better on me when I bought it than in later, recent years...I still love it though.

Pop Art Pam 6"x6"

When our Girls Just Wanna Paint group met last month, fellow member Pam Copeman was not able to be in attendance (because she was on a business trip at Fashion Week in New York! And she got to meet designer Jason Wu!) Because Pam is hosting this month's meeting, she chose this month's theme, "chic." Well. Since we believe Pam to exhibit all that is chic, we decided, in her absence, to represent her, in some chic way. Here's my "Pop Art Pam"....I hope she likes it.

My Epiphone 6x6

I've had this guitar since I was a teenager...never could play it but it's not like I didn't try. At least my brothers got to play it for many years...they have their own guitar collections now. maybe one of these days I'll try again. I'd have to cut my nails though, and I'm not ready for that. This was painted for our Girls Just Wanna Paint challenge for this month: "Music."

McGoo's Pizzeria

The first time I painted at this spot in South Boston I met some real interesting people, including Santa Clause. The reason I know he was Santa Clause was that he gave me his business card. This painting, though, was painted in my studio using my original work as a reference. I just wanted to see how it would come out, and here it is.

Brockton Fair 6"x6"

For some reason, Blogger wants to bleach out this painting...I was able to post it elsewhere and the colors remained vibrant, but not so much here. Anyway, this fair is not far from my workplace and I drive by all the time...this was painted from a photo I took. I hope to go there soon and paint plein air. An interesting place!

A Tremont Street Corner 24"x24"

I actually painted this scene a few years ago with Ros Farbush and although I like the first rendition, there were a few things that I didn't like about the original. I don't believe in copying my work, I tried to change it a bit...it looks almost exactly the same much to my surprise. Sigh. I guess I'll need to try it again.

"CTRL+ALT+DEL" (3rd Party Claims Reconciliation) 6"x6"

This is my entry to this month's "Girls Just Wanna Paint" challenge which is titled "Tools of the Trade." As a supervisor in "3rd Party Claims Reconciliation," (say that 3 times fast), I couldn't operate without my computer in my trusty cubicle...

Boats at Jo's Nautical Bar

You've really gotta love Jo's...it's a funky shaped big old building right near the tip of Hull, directly on the bayside with crazy great views. I've painted there a few times and hope to many more times...there is SO much to paint there. Gets a little windy though sometimes.

Jo's in July

Jo's Nautical bar is a local place, situated right on the bay and with plenty of boats in the parking lot that have been there for years. The bar is in the basement and there's a nice patio out in the back...kind of self service as I recall. I've painted there more than I've been a patron.

The Beach Path

For our "Girls Just Wanna Paint" April Challenge, we needed to paint/post a painting with a Duxbury theme, and I think that Duxbury has one of the best darned beaches around. So here it is.

Ruby

This is "Ruby," a lovely older Ford Falcon that belongs to our mechanic. She's in perfect shape, and such a cool car! Late last summer, I had an opportunity to paint her; I put it aside for a while and just completed it yesterday. Maybe I'll paint one of his other cars this summer.

"On the Road 10" x 20"

I painted this with the late Ros Farbush on George Washington Boulevard in Hull, MA...I think she painted a nearby building with flags but I was drawn to the road with the bay alongside.

Chase's Ocean Grove 6"x6"

These beach cottages at Chase's Ocean Grove on Cape Cod are like dollhouses, absolutely delightful. I could spend the summer there painting each one.

Thank You Ros...

Today was the memorial service for my friend and painting mentor Ros Farbush. Ros would have turned 84 next week and she was away painting for the winter where the weather is warmer, in Tucson, Arizona. She left us doing what she loved best: painting.
Fellow friend, painter, and blogger, Kelley MacDonald and I had the great opportunity (no, we MADE the opportunities, a lesson from Ros) to travel to Mexico and Holland to paint with Ros in addition to painting locally with her. Ros kept it real at all times, she was who she was, and maybe that's what we all loved best about her, except of course, for her beautiful, unique paintings. When you are confronted with a Farbush painting, there is no mistaking the painter, it's all hers.

Thank you also to Franny Andahazy at Oceanside 17 for hosting a gathering in Ros' memory with a beautiful collection of Ros' work, including some from her art school days. It was amazing and I'm glad that Franny will have Ros' work on display for a little while. Below are some of the paintings on display there.

A series of self portraits:

Below: The "Solidarity Streak Sisters," Kelley, me, and Val, all with our "Commemorative Ros streaks of color in our hair. Kelley had Magenta, Val a shade of Red, and me with Purple although not so evident in this photo.

Kelley pointing to a painting Ros was working on while we painted her one day.

Mrs. Blossom reading a lovely eulogy written by Kelley.

Thank you Ros. We love you and miss you but we are all grateful to have had you in our lives.

"His Bride" 6"x6"

While out at lunch with my parents at a Bickford's recently, my father pulled out his wallet to get a credit card out and left his wallet on the table. I grabbed my phone and took a picture of it because at that moment, I saw him and my mom...her from a 1940's photo (she's much prettier than the photo) and Dad in that he always picks up the tab. I changed the credit cards...the colors on his cards just weren't working...artistic license. Anyway, this is my entry for this month's Girls Just Wanna Paint challenge for which the theme was "Love."
