I can't believe it's been almost a year since I've posted a painting...I have painted, I just don't remember to post to my blog anymore. I need to change that, I used to love looking at other artist's blogs. I will post more often. Really.

Quarantine Blues "24x24" Acrylic

During the start of the "Stay at Home" quarantine period of this COVID-19 pandemic, we spent a lot of time just reading, watching the news, venturing out for walks wearing masks and keeping at least 6' of distance from anyone in public. We are still social distancing, walking in the immediate area, not going into stores, (into the 3rd month of this) and life is still very different than 4 months ago. If nothing else, the environment seems to be happy that fewer cars are on the road along with fewer planes, no cruise ships, etc. Let's hope we all emerge from this healthy and doing the right thing.

"She Loved Getting Flowers"

2018 is coming to a close, and I really haven't posted much this year. I was so happy to receive these flowers last summer, make a painting of them, then sell it at a show at the end of the year. It was a nice way to transition into the upcoming year. Maybe 2019 will bring more paintings that bring other people joy and happiness.

Castle Island Afternoon 12"x12" on panel

Castle Island (seems more like a peninsula) juts out into Greater Boston Harbor with commanding waterside views of Boston and the boats and ships coming and going. Also of Logan Airport and its inbound and outbound flights, some of which feel as though they will land on your head! For me though, the beauty is in the immediate environs of people of all nationalities, cultures, neighborhoods, etc., happily walking and picnicing, grabbing a great hamburger (I think it's less than $5) from Sullivan's and just relaxing. I go there often on my lunch break from work. I chose this painting for this month's "Girls Just Wanna Paint" post "Paint a Quote."

"King of Beers" 12"x16"

For our monthly "Girls Just Wanna Paint" challenge with the theme "Frosty." My daughter and I were at a local joint ordering our usual pizza and this sad beer was sitting all alone on the bar. I felt it needed to be painted and it came along just at the right time for our challenge. Happy New Year.

Today is the "Hingham Arts Walk" and I will be participating with my fellow painters from "Girls Just Wanna Paint" at the Community Center. It's a great event, all the merchants host an artist and it's such a pleasant way to get some art into your afternoon. This will be dispayed as WIP...still want to tweak it, but I like it enough to exhibit it.

This is a demo I did recently for the Braintree Art Association. I hadn't done a demo in a while so I wanted to keep a basic subject and 4 apples seemed to work.

"Waterside Houses In Gloucester"

I

I started this painting last June in Gloucester near the North Shore Art Association.

A group of us painters took the day (and a bus) from the South Shore to paint with our counterparts from the North Shore. It was a blast, but I didn't complete this painting until this week.

I really like this painting, but I don't really like the cropping that happens when I post it. The colors are dulled a bit too. Sigh....I'm going to have to get a bit more technical with photographing my paintings, I think. I usually don't have the difficulty I did with this one...I tried it in all kinds of light. Maybe I'll try again.

Celebrating the Good News in a response to this month's "Girls Just Wanna Paint" challenger of "Celebration."

After the Umpqua shooting last month, I was feeling very depressed, feeling voiceless and helpless. It then occurred to me that I have a voice with my paintings, and I belong to a talented group of women painters and challenged them to paint the theme of "gun" for this month. It understandably was not embraced fully by everyone, but some felt it was important and were glad for the opportunity to say something through their art. The loss of life, innocence, and peace is impacting us all, and we must take time to examine our values, individually, and as a society.

"Campbell's Soup Can a la Ros Warhol..."

This month's "Girls Just Wanna Paint" challenge was "Paint Like a Famous Artist." I almost phoned it in with an existing painting that I could have kinda sorta said was in the spirit of Van Gogh, because it was...kind of. But then a funny thing happened as I was putting away stuff in my studio, I came across a Campbell's Soup can that I keep pencils and small brushes in and I thought...hmmm, I can think of TWO artists to whom I could credit this subject matter, of course Andy Warhol, and my late mentor, Ros Farbush...she painted any old container she found around the house, usually filled with flowers...I tried to paint in her ultra loose style.
