This really isn't an attempt to be Kincaide...but it was New Year's Eve, and we were experiencing a snowstorm and sub freezing temperatures, and the glow from our little outside Christmas tree was just so appealing in the snow...so what's a girl to do? Paint! ...and why not paint the storm? (glad we have digital cameras..it would have been really miserable out there, not to mention dangerous...for me and my paints!)
So...I looked at my palette at the end of my painting session at the studio today...I worked on 2 paintings including the one posted today and I wondered if anyone else works with such a haphazard arrangement of colors? I went to a seminar recently on how to present my artwork and it was funny sitting with other artists and seeing how their note taking resembled mine...a little like my palette, all over the place. I guess that might help me to understand why I did not pursue accounting as a career....(I could have though...really!)Happy New Year!

OMG! Did you really have all that snow! The painting is wonderful, the snow looks so cold, but appealing, like a puffy pillow, and the house has such a warm and comfortable glow. Great job!

No not Kincaide... Why is it that so many of us artists feel that way about Kincaide... Ya gotta give the guy credit for his marketing savvy!

Kincaide is NOT on my list of artists I admire..... AND although I don't aspire to his marketing techniques, I DO admire them.

I'm sure you would have been a fabulous accountant - but the world would be deprived of your joyful art. No Kincadian similarity here, just a wonderful little house in a snowstorm on New Year's... really really nice. And I do set out my paints in order (right to left): white, cool yellow, warm yellow, warm red, cool red, cool blue, warm blue, any greens, black if I'm using it. but the palette in the mixing section is wildly chaotic!
I love this painting, it really captures the glow of a winter storm at night.

Hi again Marian...thought I would clarify on your clarification of my clarification(!) I'm not as drawn to his work either as I am to other styles but I totally agree with your comment that he deserves credit for his marketing savvy...just a different application of creativity. I also respect that he brought art to a wider audience. On one level, I think it's always a good thing when people like imagery enough to want to bring it home!
Thanks Kelley, I've seen your palette (in fact, I used your leftover palette once in Mexico, it came in handy because the colors were all laid out in a way that made it easy for me to see what was there!)

Hi Paula, I love this it so reminds me of the little houses in my hamlet where I live deep in the countryside, next time we get snow outside I will take some photos and try something similar to yours. Just want to say that the difference between your painting and 'that other chap' is 'fine art' instead of 'illustration'. Oh dear maybe I should stay out of this one! Regarding all the comments pertaining to Mr. Kinkade from everyone (seems we've been mispelling his name!) I decided to peruse his website, and I have asked my daughter to add his movie, "The Christmas Cottage" to her list of movies to rent...I'm more than a little fascinated by this venture and I would love to see him painting in the studio. I really enjoy watching other artists work, and I look forward to viewing this...I will definitely comment after I have seen the movie. I also noticed he did a painting of Graceland at Christmas...I've been to Graceland, and I think Elvis would have been proud to see his home captured in this way!
Paula, your snow scene is so beautiful. I love the way you manage to use color in an interesting way but you keep it balanced, I never feel like there's "too much" of some color(s) that don't belong (as I do with my own work). Thanks for giving me something so soothing to see this morning. :)
Even though the painting is snow, it has a nice warmth to it. And the little tree just glows.
My palette looks just about like that. There is no set way I lay my colors out, like I was taught to. I just squirt them as I need them and then go for it.
