Eat at Joe's

I started this one about 2 years ago and put it aside. It started out with alot of energy as they always do when painting plein air. Something happened to it in the studio and I just couldn't make it come alive. I almost scrapped it but decided to work on it again recently. I think I would love to paint this building again plein air with the knowledge of what happened when I decided to finish this one later. I think it is possible to tweak paintings later after the initial session, but like anything else, it is a learned skill to know how to do that without taking away that original spirit. I do like this painting, but I liked it better in the beginning. We'll see what happens next time.

Oh Paula I think this is beautiful! Maybe you're being a little hard on yourself because you're comparing it to the actual buildings. As a painting its like a rare multifaceted jewel I love it!

I love this Paula! I don't know what the original is like but this is great! Your use of color in all your paintings is incredible! Everything is so eye catching!

I love this, all pink and green, your use of colour is great. I find buildings especially difficult to do. I'm sure you should be pleased with this one.

I'm not sure what exactly you were going for but this painting has a wonderful vibrance and spirit to it.. I was immediately drawn to it

Thank you Sheila, Manon, Carolann, and Odd Chick! I love painting in Boston which I do frequently in the summer but it is definitely a full day beginning with finding a place to leave the car...Boston is not known for its copious parking! That's why I often finish them in the studio but I'm thinking with that much more experience behind me, I may be able to wrap them up on the spot this year...the warm weather is coming! (I hope!!!) Thanks again for visiting. (Odd Chick and Carolann...love your new avatars!)

I agree with everyone else, Paula. This is really cool. And the still life below it is also wonderful. I have so many paintings that could be revisited. You've inspired me!

I agree too. There's something about it that seems to pull me right into it and hold me there. VERY striking.

Paula, This is wonderful, the color is just fantastic and the complex building, WOW! I would never attempt this plein air. I hope you can accept that you did a great job here, because you did!

Hi Camille, Sandy (welcome!), R(?), Carol, Leslie, Marian, and Jeanne! I appreciate your comments. I really do like the painting...honest...it just developed so much differently than I envisioned and if you could have seen it a week ago...it was SO flat...glad I was able to revive it a bit!

Hi Paula
This is nice. I find the colours very soothing and much to my liking. A very clever use of complimenting colours.

If these paintings aren't flying off the shelf, I don't know why.
