Shelter Kitty and Juried Show
After weeks of meaning to get to a local shelter to photograph some animals to contribute to Sheila Tajima and Carrie Jacobsen's blog, "Art for the Animals," I finally went to one today. This is a wonderful way to contribute to the welfare of the animals by making a painting and donating it to the shelter for them to use, perhaps to sell, auction, or donate to potential shelter pet owners. If you're like me, you want to take all the cats or dogs home but of course, we can't. We can, though, perhaps make a difference in this way. I'll see how it works out for this particular shelter. They were very pleasant and the cats were awesome...and very curious!
I was really happy to see that my painting, "Eat at Joe's," was placed in the window of the Scituate Arts Association's charming gallery for their Juried Show! It is a small but lovely gallery in the "downtown" section on a picturesque harbor.

What a great cause... that must be your cat? I like the way you sign your name!
Thanks Brenda! This is actually one of the shelter cats that I painted this afternoon after photographing (him/her?) this morning. It is a great cause and I hope it works out for the shelter.
Great job on this Paula. I've yet to visit the shelter,(paint is still wet), but I spoke to the manager today and she was pretty happy about the whole thing. Will be meeting her and her staff next week to layout some plans to make this ongoing. Glad to see you aboard with this.
Hi Paula, That's so great you participated in the Art for the Animals! What a wonderful painting (I love tuxedo cats)!
Nice to see your Eat at Joes painting properly displayed!
Wow!!! Could be a little Karma action here!? Oh Paula that is an awesome painting! Can I post it on our Art for Animals blog? If yes, could you tell me which shelter you're working with?
How very wonderful! That was a great painting, too... If I remember, that was one you thought you had struggledd with... but... gosh I just thought it was great!!
Good for you, also for doing a bit for the greater good!!
Those are definately win/win situations, aren't they?
Thanks Vern, Michelle, Sheila, and Marian! Sheila, I will forward the info to you, and Marian, actually this was a quick painting that I did yesterday afternoon...no struggles except perhaps wondering if the background is a bit casual...I thought it was kind of energetic!
Actually, Paula, I was talking about the "Eat At Joe's" painting that is displayed in the window.
You had said that you put it aside for two years.... Looks like it "grew legs"!!!
ooh...I guess I need to read a little more carefully! Yes, you are correct...and boy, did I struggle with that one. Funny how that happens, but it came this close to being painted over! I really want to paint the building again this summer, but I have so many things I would like to do...I just have to make them all happen...nose to the grindstone, stay focused....hmmmm....thanks for dropping by...are you missing San Miguel yet?
Paula, I already loved Eat at Joe's but this kitty is really nice, too. And I'm impressed with what you're doing to help the animals at the shelter. Good going!
this is fabadabadoo. and so glad about the 'eat at joe's well deserved i say.
Hi, Paula, what wonderful work! I have tracked back through your blog and I am entranced by your art, particularly the richness of your palette and the way you capture light and shadow. I lived in Boston for years and recognize Joe's - would have, even if you didn't say where it was - recognize it because of the buildings, but more because of the feeling the painting gives me. It makes me remember walking down that street on a dry, sunny day. ... It's good to struggle with paintings, I think. Whenever I do, I learn.
Soulbrush! Thanks for stopping by! Carrie, after I read your comments I went over to the North River Arts Society site and saw this quote, "If you're not making mistakes, you're not taking risks, and that means you're not going anywhere. The key is to make the mistakes faster than the competition, so you have more chances to learn and win." - John W. Holt, Jr.
While beating my competition is not at the forefront...well maybe it is because I see my competition as being myself, I think he is right on the money about the mistakes. I thought it was appropriate to mention. Thanks!
...and soulbrush...fabadabadoo????? What a great new word for my vocabulary!
Paula and Soulbrush...
Your comments reminded me of my favorite Chinese Proverb (the fortune cookie type) EVER. Got it years and years ago and have saved it ever since:
"He who makes no mistakes, makes nothing."
How true...next time I goof...I will think of this! Thanks!
You're a girl with a big heart, Paula, and I'm sure they'll be thrilled to get this lovely painting. I bet you wanted to take this baby home! Are you in a show at Scituate?
Thanks Kelley, and those cats were all so well behaved! I wanted to take them all, of course. I am in Scituate's juried show which runs through April 5.

This is a great painting and will inspire me to paint my own cat who is 19 years old and I must do it! You have an award on my blog. Do drop by and pick it up if you don't already have one.
Love this kitty cat!
