Happy Earth Day

So in honor of Earth Day I have recycled this painting I did last summer at Maggie's farm. I thought about how our habits have changed since I was a kid and remembered that our moms used to wrap our sandwiches in waxed paper...no plastic bags yet, in fact, waxed paper bags were a novel invention when they arrived! We also didn't have rolls of paper towels to use either. Take out coffee cups were probably around, but not in the numbers they are today. I'm not sure these are all bad things, they produce jobs for people, disposable cups and dinnerware cut down on water usage and potential for spreading some kinds of bacteria and illness, but I wonder which is worse? I've also become what I've mocked, shutting out the lights each time I leave a room...now I just have to remember that front door light!

Happy Earth Day to you Paula! I really love the colors in this painting! I always looks forward to your posts!

I try to do as much as I can for our Earth! I'm such a huge recycler! Our community gave us these big recycling bins and mine is brimming out every week. I try not to use plastic water bottles as much..... My Sigg is always with me!!

Love this painting. The colors and composition are really striking. The bold, simplified, minimal detail, style is wonderful!

I love this one! great creatures. I especially like that brave charge of aqua on the sheep, and the green and purple tones compliment nicely.

Love this! I adore the way you use negative space and unique color palettes!

I LOVED this one in person!
How do you get so many followers! Every time I visit you have more! Good for you. I definitely see why people keep coming back. I am one of them ;-)
Here is part of a comment I left for Kelley and copied MAry on
"We definitely have to plan a time for you, Paula, and Mary to come up. Maybe I can kick hubby out for a night (or just send him upstairs) and you can all stay over and we can do a beach day, painting, and some margaritas and dinner at night. Just a thought ;-)"

I think that if we each spend time every day thinking about how to protect our earth / environment we're bound to get better and better...
It's just that there are so many of us...
Thanks for your lovely reminder! (as long as they stop letting off gases that destroy our ozone layer... LOL)

Your little lambs are so brilliantly ( I'm using that as an adjective to describe not only them, but your way of painting) painted and I love the turquoise on the neck.
I've stopped using water bottles ( and who would have ever guessed we'd pay to buy water!) and I have a Nalgene bottle. I agonize over every little bit of plastic or styrofoam I have to use. Yeah, the light thing, me too.

I like the green background - it really sets the tone of the painting.
The purple shades on the lambs are nice. My favorite is the dark one in the back - it's so cute.
Nice selection for the Earth Day!

this is one of my favorite paintings. I always seem to remember paper towels, but there were a lot more real towels around the house, too. Paper cups were a rarity, too - people used to sit down to have a coffee at a coffee place, bakery or bar. Like in Europe - you don't see people dragging coffee cups all over the place. Also, things were not packaged so heavily - plastic inside of cardboard. I, too, recycle a TON! Sometimes there's too much for the bin - my son says we should cut down on buying so many things in plastic bottles. Thanks for this thought provoking post, Paula. Can always count on you! :)

Wonderful painting, and Happy Earth Day, Paula! Our community's been embroiled in a big battle to try to block an large WTE incinerator from being built on the edge of town. Has everyone even more alert to the ramifications of waste disposal and recycling.

Paula!

This painting breaks all the rules!

The colors are so loud and intense. The bright green grass...the purple sheep. But it looks so friggin' cool!

Such a lively painting bursting with color. It works. I don't know how, but it all works.
