Pemberton Places 20"x20"

On the first fantastic day of the year (sunny, no wind, 70+ degrees), Kelley, Ros, Ros' friend Ginny and I set out for the very end of Hull, replete with many cottages and former cottages, all so unique.

Paula, this is so subdued. I get the feeling that the sun was so bright that your colors were sunbleached. I love the shapes, very interesting to look at and think about.

Love the shape of that middle house. I can just feel the breeze and ease of a sunny afternoon walking past these houses :)

Hey, thanks everyone. These cottages have been there for so long with the exception of a couple renovated in recent years. The seaside cottages here do tend to be washed out, color wise which is part of their beauty; they kind of blend into their environment.

looks like a place I would love to see--very nice painting, love your composition.

Paula!

The composition is the strongest part of this painting IMHO.

I love how the buildings seem to curve away as they go farther down. Does this make sense?

Lovely!

Thanks Rhonda and Dean. This is on a peninsula of land that comes to a point where there are great views of Boston and many boats travel through. A very serene area with a great little snack bar!

Very nice Paula! Do you start with purple? Your paintings always have a wonderful, cool purple tone!

Paula Villanova said...

Hi Michelle, I start with Prussian Blue...but the purple always gets in there somehow!

Paula, you say it's Hull and I believe you, because you have captured a place where you can't see the water but from the way the sky looks you know that the ocean is right there. Growing up inland, we'd take trips to the shore and when I saw a sky like the one you painted here, it thrilled me, because it meant we were almost to the sea.
