Get on The Bus

To get to Senator Edward Kennedy's wake at the Kennedy Memorial Library in August 2009, bus transportation was provided from the JFK/UMASS subway station. When I boarded the bus, I saw this gentleman with a green tie covered with shamrocks and asked if I could take his picture. He politely responded, "sure." I didn't expect the photo to come out with the rest of the wonderful group of people. I hope they don't mind that I painted them.

Paula, this is wonderful! I remember taking one of those shuttle buses to the JFK Libray two years ago. It seemed the perfect time and place for studying people's faces. You captured this guy, and the lady sitting next to him so well! I enjoyed meeting you Saturday. You have a great blog!

Thanks Camille, it's one of my personal favorites. As a Massachusetts citizen, I had a front row seat to Senator Kennedy's political and very public personal trials. It was very moving to be at his wake and to meet members of his family who very graciously mingled with the many thousands of visitors who came to pay their respects. I love the diverse mix of people on this bus...I believe that in the end, this was representative of his desire for peace, respect, and caring for all people.
