St. Paul's in Hingham Square 24"x24"

I actually painted this last summer and I never posted it because there are several things about it that bother me. Conversely, there's alot I like about it too...and although I have signed it, I keep looking at it and seeing things I would like to change...perhaps I will post an updated version later. (which will include straightening out the steeple....!)

Just hang it slightly crooked! Then steeple will look straight. Actually I didn't even notice it til you mentioned it. And I saw it in person!

I think it's lovely... why change a thing?! (I do understand those nagging areas that won't resolve themselves but... I like it just as it is!)

I think you did a really nice job on a very difficult subject. I always admire someone who can do architecture.

Thanks ladies...but whenever I look at it, it keeps nagging at me so I think it's begging to be fixed...I'll give it a shot and repost! (It may work, it may not, who knows?)

I really love all the colors you've used for the white building.

I love it..... I'd keep it the way it is. I do, however, know how you feel when you think something isn't quite right. The right answer will come to you.

I'd leave it as it is. The repeating geometic elements, horizontal and vertical, compel the eye to explore the whole scene. That's why I like it a lot.

Thanks Atul, Manon, and Michelle for your feedback and for visiting my blog! Great to hear from all of you.

Don't - NO! The steeple is right in line with the rest of the church - and if you 'straighten' it, the church will look 'off'. I love it as it is - if you MUST do something, take it off the stretcher frame and re-stretch the whole thing so the church is straight - but for me.... I'd leave it - it's NOT a photograph!

Well, I actually did mess with the painting a little more. It was really bugging me and I will post it. It's not a dramatic change but I believe I did fix the steeple...I haven't had a chance to photograph it yet, and that was actually when I caught the problem last time...so we'll see...

I like it. And as several other readers have said... never noticed the crooked steeple until you mentioned it.
Doing any sort of building has real challenges... I think you did a great job!

I always like your subject matter.

And of course, I don't have an inner critic going on, so I think it's beautiful!

I love it just tha way it is. I think it's fantastic and captures the church perfectly. I didn't even notice the steeple but even so, it's historical so fits in Hingham Square as is. Again, I love it!

Thanks Selene, but actually, I did change it, and what you saw at Open Studios is the corrected one...so it actually doesn't look too different...thanks for your comments!

I thought this looked familiar, but then I thought "Typical New England church" until I read your tags. I lived in Hingham for a while in the 60's...my sister got married at this church! And I still remember my ugly dress :P

Thanks for being my new "stalker."
Your work is lovely!

Hey lolo,
Thanks for stopping by! We all have, or at least had, such a collection of those dresses...I can't remember how many times I was a bridesmaid, but I don't recall ever wearing any of those dresses a 2nd time! How funny that you recognized this! You'd be amazed at all the changes in Hingham since you lived here. I have been in this area all my life and in Hingham since 1980 and I do love the "oldness" of the town, it has certainly made way for a new Hingham as well...we once again have a train to Boston!
